Betting Business: NJ sports betting on March Madness

It's New Jersey's first foray into legal wagering on March Madness, going from the office bracket pool to the dizzying array of bets now available.

According to information provided by William Hill, which operates the Monmouth Park Sports Book by William Hill, some interesting trends have developed as Thursday's games are getting underway.

Take the Syracuse-Baylor showdown, with some 82 percent of the money wagered on the Syracuse, with 79 percent of the tickets purchased on the Orangemen, who are 2-point favorites.

And while Maryland is a 3-point favorites over Belmont in a 3:10 p.m. tipoff on Thursday, fans are clearly thinking that's too high, with 79 percent of the money wagered on Belmont, with Belmont accounting for 70 percent of the tickets purchased.

Want prop bets?

There are plenty of them to choose from, like total points for Villanova's Phil Booth against Saint Mary's in a 7:20 p.m. tip, with the line set at 17.5 points.

William Hill is also offering $1 million March Mania parlay card, which requires players to successfully pick 20 first round matchups correctly against the point spread/totals. The card is $5 to play.
