The New York Mets (44-51) and San Francisco Giants (47-49) lock horns for the first of a four-game set at Oracle Park on the shores of San Francisco Bay at 9:45 p.m. Eastern on Thursday.

The Giants are back home after a four-game road sweep in Colorado, and they outscored the Rockies 40-15 in the impressive brooming.

RHP Noah Syndergaard vs. LHP Madison Bumgarner

Syndergaard posted a quality start last time out on July 13 in Miami against the lowly Marlins, but he'll run into an offensive buzzsaw in San Francisco against a Giants team playing with a lot of confidence. He allowed three earned runs, five hits and four walks over 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Giants last time out on June 4 at Citi Field.

Bumgarner's name has been bandied about in trade rumors, although that talk has subsided as the Giants have fought back into contention in recent weeks. He was battling a left elbow contusion recently, but he didn't show any ill effects of the ailment in his return in Milwaukee on July 13, allowing just one unearned run, seven hits and a walk with six strikeouts over five innings in a no-decision.
