Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox: Projected Starting Pitchers

LHP Brendan McKay vs. RHP Andrew Cashner

McKay takes the ball for his first career appearance at Fenway Park and against the Red Sox. He has posted a 1-1 record, 3.72 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across 19 1/3 innings in his four outings so far. McKay was tuned up by the White Sox at home in his most recent outing July 19, coughing up six runs - five earned - and nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings, needing 22.8 pitches per inning. The Rays have lost in each of his past three appearances.

Cashner will make his fourth start for the Red Sox since coming over in a mid-July trade from the lowly Baltimore Orioles. He posted his first quality start in three outings with the team when he allowed three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings in a win against the New York Yankees on July 26. However, he also was knocked around for 10 hits, and he has yielded 24 hits and five walks in just 17 2/3 innings since coming over to the BoSox.

Tampa Bay Rays at Boston Red Sox: Picks and Betting Tips

</div> <p> <strong>Moneyline:</strong> The Rays (+105) have their brooms out at Fenway Park, but the play will be the <strong>Red Sox (-125)</strong> Thursday. Boston bounces back nicely after losing the first two in a series, and they'll do it again.</p> <p> <strong>Run line:</strong> The Rays (+1.5, -155) will cost you moderate <a rel="noopener" target="_blank" href="https://sportsbookwire.usatoday.com/2019/06/04/what-does-chalk-mean-in-sports-betting/">chalk</a> if you want the insurance of a run. The <strong>Red Sox (-1.5, +135)</strong> might be worth a roll of the dice due to their solid work after losing the first two of a series, while also managing solid numbers against lefties.</p> <p> <strong>Over/under:</strong> Take the <strong>UNDER</strong> <strong>(10.5, -105)</strong>. It is 7-3 in the past 10 meetings in Fenway Park, but the over is 11-1 in Boston's past 12 at home against teams with a winning overall record, 21-7 in their past 28 overall and 17-5 in the past 22 overall at home. The over has cashed in four in a row for the Rays, too, and 4-0 in the past four on the road. An under is due.</p> <p> <em>Follow Joe on Twitter <a rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" href="https://twitter.com/JoeWilliamsVI">@JoeWilliamsVI</a> </em> </p> <p><strong>MORE:</strong></p> <p><a href="https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/09/burmese-python-discovered-in-surprising-place/?utm_source=USATAPP&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=inline-related">Burmese python discovered in surprising place</a></p> <p><a href="https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/09/packers-eagles-goal-line-passes/?utm_source=USATAPP&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=inline-related">Packers' puzzling goal-line decisions end in disaster</a></p> <p><a href="https://ftw.usatoday.com/2018/04/most-bizarre-and-incredible-catches-by-fishermen-in-past-decade-2/?utm_source=USATAPP&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=inline-related">Most bizarre and incredible catches by fishermen in past decade</a></p> <p><a href="https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/09/ad-astra-brad-pitt-explained-right-wrong/?utm_source=USATAPP&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=inline-related">Where Ad Astra went right and where it went very wrong</a></p> <p><a href="https://ftw.usatoday.com/2019/09/ufc-fighter-makes-opponent-flinch-by-screaming-in-his-face-during-staredown/?utm_source=USATAPP&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=inline-related">UFC fighter makes opponent flinch by screaming in his face during staredown</a></p></body></html>
