Future NBA Betting: 2019-20 NBA Championship odds and lines

The 2019-20 NBA regular season is about to begin.

The oddsmakers at BetMGM are on board with the Los Angeles Clippers (+325) as the favorite to win the NBA Championship this season. The Clippers saw significant line movement (odds dropped from +1200) from earlier in the summer after they acquired Paul George via trade with Oklahoma City and then landed Kawhi Leonard to form a dynamic duo.

Los Angeles is well represented at the top of the board; the Los Angeles Lakers (+400), led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis, aren't far behind the LA Clippers in the BetMGM oddsmakers' eyes.

And don't forget Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Milwaukee Bucks (+525), who round out the top three teams most likely to win the NBA Championship this season. Like the Lakers, the Bucks' odds have remained fairly stable over the course of the summer.

New to NBA betting?

Betting now on the NBA Championship is known as a " futures bet." You're placing a bet long in advance on how you see something playing out. In this case, you're picking the NBA Champion at the start of the season.

The big positive is the return on your investment (wager) if you're right. All of the teams at this time are paying at least 3:1 odds. These odds will change - A LOT - during the course of the year. The later you get in the year, the less potential return the books provide.

If you bet $10 on the Clippers today to win at +325 odds, you'd profit $32.50 at the end of the season should the Clippers indeed win the championship.

Bet that same $10 on the Lakers? You'd see a profit of $40 at +400 odds; or $52.50 on the Bucks' at +525.

Do you have your eye on a sleeper team for this year? The longer the odds, the more the potential return (and the higher the risk, of course). Take the Detroit Pistons (+1500), where a $10 wager returns a $150 profit with a Detroit World Championship.

A large negative when it comes to futures betting is you're sitting on your money for a long period of time. It could be quite profitable, but that's money that you could also be wagering on the regular during the season.
