NFL team win total best bets: How many games will the Minnesota Vikings win in 2020?

How many games will the Minnesota Vikings win in the 2020 NFL season? We look at BetMGM's projected win total and the Over/Under odds, while looking back at the 2019 season and key offseason roster changes.

Minnesota Vikings' 2019 season

The Vikings earned a second trip to the postseason in the last three years with a 10-6 regular-season record and a second-place finish in the NFC North. They then stunned the New Orleans Saints - and most of the football world - with a 26-20 overtime win at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in the wild-card round, before losing 27-10 on the road against the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round.

The Vikes were 9-7 against the spread in the regular season, winning by an average margin of 6.5 points per game and covering by 2.8 PPG. They also went 9-7 against the Over/Under while topping the point projections by just 0.7 PPG.

Minnesota Vikings' 2020 offseason changes

The Vikings have been one of the busier teams this offseason. WR Stefon Diggs was traded to the Buffalo Bills along with a seventh-round pick for the No. 22 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft and three other picks. QB Kirk Cousins was re-signed to a two-year extension worth $66 million.

The defense took several hits with the releases of DT Linval Joseph and CB Xavier Rhodes, and the departures of CB Trae Waynes and DE Everson Griffen. WR Justin Jefferson was chosen in the first round of the draft to replace Diggs. CBs Jeff Gladney (first round) and Cameron Dantzler (third round) will help reinforce the secondary.

Projected wins: 8.5 / OVER: -159 / UNDER: +130

The Vikings have topped their 2020 projected win total in three of the past five seasons and they haven't won fewer than eight games since a 7-9 campaign in 2014. The Over is thus a heavy favorite with low odds of -159 returning a profit of just $6.29 on a $10 bet.

The UNDER 8.5 (+130) is our advised wager. The Vikings are tied with the 10th-most difficult schedule in 2020, and that doesn't account for the projected improvements of the Buccaneers and rival Bears and Lions. Minnesota went just 2-4 in divisional play last season. It's difficult to envision them going better than 3-3 in the NFC North, leaving little room for error, particularly on the road, where they'll face three playoff teams from 2019, in addition to the Packers.
