RHP Aaron Nola vs. LHP Max Fried

Nola: 2-1, 2.05 ERA, 0.646 WHIP, 37 K, 4 BB, 26 1/3 IP, 4 starts

  • Has improved all three of his strikeout (12.6 K/9), walk (1.4 BB/9) and home run (1.0/9) rates from last season with just 6 earned runs allowed through 26 1/3 innings.
  • Completed six innings in each of his last three starts and topped 100 pitches in his last start while going 7 scoreless innings against the New York Mets in a 6-2 Phillies win.

Prediction

Braves 3, Phillies 1

Moneyline (ML)

The Phillies (-110) are typically a safe choice whenever Nola is on the mound but Fried has been one of the top pitchers in baseball to start the year and the BRAVES (+100) are yet to lose when he takes the mound. Atlanta is without a pair of key bats in Acuna and Albies, but the remaining roster will have little trouble against a Phillies bullpen with a cumulative 8.07 ERA.

Take ATLANTA (+100) as even-money underdogs as the two Cy Young hopefuls go toe-to-toe deep into the game but the Braves pull out a win in the later innings.

Run line/Against the spread (ATS)

The Braves' alternate line of -1.5 (+195) is enticing, but it's too risky with Nola on the opposing mound. Stick with the main line of BRAVES +1.5 (-182) in what's sure to be a low-scoring pitchers' duel.

Over/Under (O/U)

Trust in the starters to pitch the majority of the game for both sides and take the UNDER 8 (-100). There's always the chance of these two bullpens falling apart, as the Phillies did Thursday against the Toronto Blue Jays, but they shouldn't have the opportunity to do so Friday when coming in behind these starters.
