Utah Jazz at Minnesota Timberwolves odds, picks and predictions

The Utah Jazz (2-4) visit the Minnesota Timberwolves (2-2) Saturday. Tip-off from Target Center is set for 8 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the Jazz vs. Timberwolves odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; split last season's series 2-2

Utah suffered a 115-113 loss at the hands of the Orlando Magic Thursday, failing to cover as a 1.5-point home underdog. In a game that was so even down the stretch, the Jazz's turnovers proved costly. Utah finished with 20 turnovers — its 2nd game in a row committing 20 or more.

Minnesota handed the defending-champion Denver Nuggets their 1st loss of the season in a 110-89 rout Thursday, easily covering as a 2-point home underdog. The offensively talented trio of G Mike Conley, G Anthony Edwards, and F Karl-Anthony Towns combined for 62 points, while C Naz Reid added 16 points off the bench.

Jazz at Timberwolves picks and predictions

Prediction

Timberwolves 105, Jazz 102

Moneyline

PASS.

Minnesota (-350) should pick up the win here, but a -350 favorite is never worth the risk of betting on. Bet on the spread and/or Over/Under instead.

Against the spread

LEAN JAZZ +8.5 (-115).

These are 2 teams that I feel are on the same tier in the Western Conference, and for that reason, I like Utah to keep this game close. Minnesota is the much better team defensively, but the opposite is true for Utah on the offensive side. Minnesota did just beat a very good Nuggets team, but that win seemed like more of a fluke than something we should expect to continue seeing.

Over/Under

BET UNDER 224.5 (-105).

These teams are on opposite ends of the spectrum defensively. Minnesota only allows 100.8 opponent points per game, while the Jazz allow 118 OPPG. Minnesota is a team that feels like it still has a lot of offensive concerns, and for that reason, I don't expect Utah's bad defense to be a concern for this bet. The Timberwolves have allowed under 100 points in 3 of their 4 games this season, with the only outlier being a 127-113 loss to the Atlanta Hawks. The Under has hit in 3 of Minnesota's 4 games this year.
