Los Angeles Chargers at New York Jets odds, picks and predictions

The Los Angeles Chargers (3-4) face the New York Jets (4-3) on Monday to end Week 9 NFL action. Kickoff from MetLife Stadium is at 8:15 p.m. ET (ABC/ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the Chargers vs. Jets odds, and make our expert NFL picks and predictions.

The New York Jets, led by QB Zach Wilson, have a bettor record than a pretty healthy Chargers team this year. Both teams played easy opponents in Week 8 and came up with the win.

The Chargers beat the Chicago Bears in California 30-13 and this game wasn't close. Chicago had no run game since they played behind the entire night and had just 73 total rushing yards, but surprisingly that was more than the 54 rushing yards for the Chargers.

The Jets were "on the road" against the New York Giants and won 13-10 in an ugly slog. There were a combined 24 punts and both teams were 1-dimensional. The Jets' leading rusher was their quarterback with 25 yards while the Giants had -9 net passing yards. The Jets were fortunate as a Giants' missed field goal with 28 seconds left provided crucial field position.

Chargers at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Chargers 17, Jets 14

Moneyline

After losing their 1st 2 games, both as favorites, L.A. is slowing getting back on track. The Chargers rank 7th in yards per game (362.4) while the Jets are 30th (273.3 yards). It shouldn't be easy but the Chargers should pull off a win as QB Justin Herbert is completing 68.6% of his passes the past 2 weeks while Jets QB Zach Wilson is sitting at 47.2%.

But the current odds are too high and you should PASS and look at the spread instead.

Against the spread

Don't discount the Jets' home field advantage even when they are underdogs. They are 3-1 when taking points at MetLife Stadium. Combine that with the Chargers 1-2 record ATS on the road and I expect this game to be close, even if the Jets can't pull off the upset.

BET JETS +3.5 (-110).

Over/Under

The Chargers (24th in opponent points per game) have gone under in 5 straight games despite playing the Bears (28th) and Las Vegas Raiders (22nd) during that span.

And while L.A. is 8th in both yards per play (5.6) and points per play (.382), the Jets' defense is dominant, ranking 4th in yards per play allowed (4.8) and 3rd in points per play (.286).

LEAN UNDER 39.5 (-110).
