Orlando Magic at Brooklyn Nets odds, picks and predictions

The Orlando Magic (5-4) visit the Brooklyn Nets (5-5) Tuesday. Tip-off from the Barclays Center is set for 7:30 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's (OR FanDuel Sportsbook's) lines around the Magic vs. Nets odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.

Season series: First meeting; Brooklyn won 2-1 last season

Orlando ended its 2-game losing skid with a 112-97 win over the Milwaukee Bucks Saturday, covering as a 2.5-point underdog. The Magic saw 3 starters eclipse the 20-point mark in the win and C Moritz Wagner added 19 points off the bench as well. The Magic also won the rebounding battle 43-36 and had 3 fewer turnovers than Milwaukee.

Brooklyn has won 2 of its last 3 after securing a 102-94 win over the Washington Wizards Sunday, covering as a 7-point favorite. The Nets shot terribly in that outing -- 37.8% from the field and 24.5% from 3 -- but won because of their dominance on the glass as they outrebounded the Wizards 66-42.

Magic at Nets picks and predictions

Prediction

Magic 108, Nets 103

Moneyline

LEAN MAGIC (+110).

The key for the Magic to win this game will be turnovers. Orlando averages 15.4 turnovers per game, and that sloppiness with the ball often leads to easy buckets for the opponent. With Fultz out, who is one of Orlando's main ball-handlers, I am concerned about the turnovers here. However, if Orlando can protect the ball then it will have success as its defense will be tough for this injured Nets squad to overcome.

Against the spread

BET MAGIC +2.5 (-110).

These teams are very evenly matched, which is why injuries will play such a significant role for both teams. The Nets are missing Thomas, who leads the team at 26.9 points per game, while also missing Simmons, who leads the team in assists (6.7) and rebounds (10.8) per game. Brooklyn's offense has been carried by Thomas this year, and his absence will be seen in the Nets' half-court offense.

Over/Under

LEAN UNDER 219.5 (-115).

Both of these squads will be missing key pieces on both sides of the ball, and I expect both to struggle a bit in the half-court. Orlando is a very solid defensive team, allowing only 106.1 PPG and that defense combined with the fact that neither of these teams is very good offensively, means that the Under here is a very safe bet.
