Liberty at UTEP odds, picks and predictions

The Liberty Flames (11-0, 7-0 Conference USA) and UTEP Miners (3-8, 2-5) meet Saturday. Kickoff at the Sun Bowl is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. ET (CBS Sports Network). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the Liberty vs. UTEP odds, and make our expert college football picks and predictions.

Liberty is No. 22 in the US LBM Coaches Poll powered by Paste BN Sports. The Flames have already clinched CUSA's top spot in the regular season and will host New Mexico State in a Dec. 1 league championship tilt. LU had a 3-game against-the-spread (ATS) streak snapped last Saturday in a 49-25 win over UMass — the Flames were favored by 26.5.

The Miners head into this game off back-to-back 1-score losses. Both were ATS covers, the most recent of which was a 34-30 loss at Middle Tennessee last Saturday. The 30 points in that game marked the 2nd-most UTEP has scored in a single game this season (37 vs. Sam Houston State Oct. 25). The Miners are the lowest-scoring team in CUSA.

Liberty at UTEP picks and predictions

Prediction

UTEP 35, Liberty 17

Moneyline

The winner here is the holder of all the prices between these 2. PASS.

Against the spread

Peg the Flames as getting to a 2-score lead fairly early. A win by 17-20 looks likely, so there isn't enough left for profit concerns.

AVOID.

Over/Under

The total has gone Under in 10 of Texas-El Paso's last 11 games at home.

The best sector of UTEP's analytics on offense comes from its slightly above-average rushing success rate. So figure on the Miners battling a potential rout by eating clock and moving the ball on the ground if possible. Plus, against a couple other decent offenses in the conference — Jacksonville State and Western Kentucky — UETP allowed a combined 39 points.

The Flames have been quite good in defending red-zone TDs of late. They also figure as a bit turnover-lucky so far. Don't figure this game for an over-abundance of short-field opportunities.

High winds are in the forecast, and might Liberty pack up early with a half-a-rout in favor of saving anything special for the league title game?

TAKE THE UNDER 56.5 (-110).
