Minnesota at Ohio State odds, picks and predictions

The Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-2) and Ohio State Buckeyes (6-1) swing into December and conference play as they tangle Sunday night in Columbus. The opening tipoff at the Schottenstein Center will be at 6:30 p.m. ET (Big Ten Network). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook's lines around the Minnesota vs. Ohio State odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

Minnesota is 3-1 straight up and 3-1 against the spread (ATS) since Nov. 18. A UM squad ranked 118th by KenPom logged its only loss in that stretch to a solid San Francisco team 76-58 in a Nov. 26 neutral-site game. Albeit against a weak schedule so far, the Gophers have strong analytic measures in the 2-point game on offense and in stopping the 3-point game on defense.

Since Nov. 15, the Buckeyes -- KenPom No. 21 -- are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS. That stretch includes impressive wins over then-No. 15 Alabama and a solid Santa Clara team in the Nov. 24-25 Emerald Coast Classic in Niceville, Fla. During its win streak, Ohio State has shot a robust 44.4% from 3-point range.

Minnesota at Ohio State picks and predictions

Prediction

Ohio State 76, Minnesota 64

Moneyline

PASS: no value to be found between these prices.

Against the spread

Minnesota won 70-67 at Ohio State last season. Look for the Buckeyes to get a measure of retribution in this one. Just maybe right around the degree to which is laid out by this point spread.

Ohio State has the more efficient offense and should be a plus in both sides of the turnover game. But in a slowed-tempo contest, getting out in front and holding a 2-TD lead looks like a tall order.

PASS.

Over/Under

The Under has hit in 2 straight series meetings and 4 of the last 6.

Peg this match-up as due for a below-average pace. Minnesota has thus far had some games with more possessions, but those have been against quadrant 3 and quadrant 4 foes.

Expect some regression in both team's thus-far successful numbers in close (less frequency here, too). And Ohio State looks to be overcooked on its 3-point shooting.

The opponent averages for both teams point out some suspect defenses played through the 1st month.

TAKE THE UNDER 142.5 (-105). Consider this to be a marginal-value play: going in on a partial-unit basis may be wise.
