San Jose Sharks at Vegas Golden Knights odds, picks and predictions

The San Jose Sharks (8-17-2) take on the Vegas Golden Knights (18-5-5) Sunday at T-Mobile Arena. Puck drop is set for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the Sharks vs. Golden Knights odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The resilient Sharks stunned the New York Islanders and Detroit Red Wings with OT winners this week. They clipped the Wings 6-5 Thursday night. Detroit's onslaught accounted for 4 goals in the 2nd period, which prompted a goalie swap, but G Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 10 of 11 shots the rest of the way as the Sharks made it back to the surface. They have won 3 of 4, and this is the end of a 6-game road swing.

The Knights are 4-0-1 in their last 5 games as they come home for a 4-game set this week. They sit firmly atop the Pacific Division and are 7 points ahead of the Colorado Avalanche for 1st in the conference. The Knights are eating well after swallowing up the Dallas Stars 6-1 Saturday. C Jack Eichel is putting it all together this season as he's on a 6-game point streak and leads the team with 31 on the year (12 goals, 19 assists). VGK took down the Sharks 5-0 Nov. 10.

  • Puck line (PL)/Against the spread (ATS): Sharks +1.5 (+105) | Golden Knights -1.5 (-130)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6 (O: -115 | U: -105)

Sharks at Golden Knights projected goalies

Mackenzie Blackwood (3-11-2, 3.83 GAA, .895 SV%) vs. Jiri Patera (2-0-0, 2.50 GAA, .929 SV% in 2022-23)

Blackwood has definitely gotten a good core workout as he has watched 10 go by him over the last 2 starts. His last outing ended halfway through the 2nd period as Detroit lit him up for 4 goals in the 2nd. Before that, he stopped 30 of 36 against the New York Rangers.

The 24-year-old Patera has made 2 starts in his career, and he got 12 goals of support in the wins last year. He'll make this spot start as Logan Thompson has carried a heavy load with G Adin Hill (lower body) out. Patera was 6-6-2 with a 3.17 GAA and .900 SV% in the AHL this year.

Sharks at Golden Knights picks and predictions

Prediction

Golden Knights 5, Sharks 4

Moneyline

So we have a bad, but surging Sharks team taking on arguably the best team in hockey with their 3rd goalie between the pipes. San Jose's +260 is tempting, but I just can't get myself over the hump to see that through. It may need overtime, but I like VGK here — but not at the -350.

Instead, I love JACK EICHEL OVER 3.5 SHOTS (-150). He has 4+ shots in 3 straight games and had 5 against them Nov. 10.

Puck line/Against the spread

It's a risk, but the Sharks are playing well enough for me to go a HALF-UNIT on SHARKS +1.5 (+105). The Knights have every reason to fall into a trap here and overlook the rebuilding team. VGK played yesterday, and the Sharks are swimming with the current after 2 OT wins.

Over/Under

This is going Over unless someone gets shut out. The Sharks have cashed Overs in 3 of 4, and Vegas cashed Overs in the last 2. We have a couple of suspect goalies between the pipes, and I would not be surprised if this swelled to 6.5 by puck drop.

Take the OVER 6 (-115).
