Philadelphia 76ers at Detroit Pistons odds, picks and predictions
The Philadelphia 76ers (15-7) take on the Detroit Pistons (2-21) Wednesday with tip-off from Little Caesars Arena set for 7 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the 76ers vs. Pistons odds and make our expert NBA picks and predictions.
Season series: 76ers lead 1-0
The Sixers open up a home-and-home set on the road as winners of 3 in a row. They took down the Washington Wizards 146-101 Monday. The ascension of G Tyrese Maxey has been critical. He's averaging 27 PPG, 6.7 APG, 4.1 RPG and is shooting 40.7% from distance. He has become a star, and if you don't believe me, just look at the career-high 6.4 assists C Joel Embiid is averaging.
After starting the season 2-1, the Pistons have lost an insane 20 games in a row. They kept it close against the high-flying Indiana Pacers, though they failed to cover as 7.5-point dogs, in a 131-123 defeat Monday. The Pistons covered as 8.5-point dogs in a 114-106 loss to the Sixers Nov. 10. Despite being 2-21, the Pistons are 9-14 against the spread (ATS).

76ers at Pistons picks and predictions
Prediction
76ers 125, Pistons 115
Moneyline
I'm going to waffle a little bit here, but it would not surprise me if the Pistons won this game. The Sixers (-800) are just 6-4 on the road this season, and they're in a stretch where they're alternating home and away games over their next 4. It would be easy to overlook this team — a team that is down and tired of losing after 20 defeats in a row.
Now, having said that, I don't have enough conviction to take the Pistons' ML and am not reckless enough to take the 76ers'. Instead, I'm going to take TYRESE MAXEY OVER 3.5 THREE-POINTERS (+110). He has 4+ triples in 2 straight games and is shooting 47.7% from deep in 3 December games.
Against the spread
As mentioned, the Pistons covered the 1st matchup at home, and the spread here is 3 points higher. That's a bit prisoner-of-the-moment because Detroit has lost 20 in a row, and Philly just beat down the Wizards by 45.
Take the PISTONS +11.5 (-105).
Over/Under
The Over is 6-3-1 in the last 10 meetings with the 1st matchup this season going Under. The Sixers are 15-6-1 O/U this year, and the Pistons are 13-10. The 76ers are 4th with 122 PPG, and the Pistons are tied for 6th in pace.
This one is going OVER 233.5 (-115).
