Detroit Red Wings at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and predictions

The Detroit Red Wings (15-12-4) take on the Winnipeg Jets (18-9-3) Wednesday at Canada Life Centre. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the Red Wings vs. Jets odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The Wings have lost 3 straight and 6 out of the last 7 after Monday's 4-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks. Making news even worse, they lost starting G Ville Husso Monday to a lower-body injury. He's week-to-week. C Dylan Larkin returned Monday and had an assist and 3 shots on goal.

The Jets are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss to the Montreal Canadiens Monday. The 3 goals G Connor Hellebuyck allowed in that one was the most he had allowed in 10 starts. They are still 6-1-1 this month despite being without top-scorer LW Kyle Connor. Top D Josh Morrissey (face) is also questionable for this one.

Red Wings at Jets projected goalies

James Reimer (2-4-2, 2.61 GAA, .907 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Laurent Brossoit (3-3-1, 2.57 GAA, .909 SV%)

It's going to be Reimer's show for a bit with Husso and fellow backup Alex Lyon injured. Reimer stopped 14 of 16 shots he faced after Husso went down Monday. He had a great start to the season, winning his 1st 2 starts, but he hasn't won one since. So he'll be going for his 1st win in nearly 2 months in this game. He was 2-1-0 in 3 starts against Winnipeg last year, allowing 8 goals on 112 shots.

Brossoit has been really good in 2 December starts, stopping 72 of 75 shots fired his way for a 1.50 GAA and .950 SV%. In 7 starts this season, he has allowed more than 3 goals just once.

Red Wings at Jets picks and predictions

Prediction

Jets 5, Red Wings 3

Moneyline

Despite being without Connor, the Jets have continued to pour it on offensively. They have lit the lamp at least 3 times in 5 of 7 games this month. The Jets are 9-5-2 at home this season. In this matchup of backup goalies, Winnipeg's backup is playing better than Detroit's.

This is right at my ML limit, and I'll take JETS -160.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Jets are 16-8 on the puck line overall this season, and they're 9-5 at home. The Jets have won the last 2 meetings, 4-1 and 6-2, and their last 4 wins against Detroit have been by 2 or more goals.

Take the JETS -1.5 (+145).

Over/Under

The Wings have gone Over in 3 of 5, and the Jets have cashed Overs in 2 of 3. The Over is 2-2 in the last 4 meetings. The presence of backup goalies in this game gets it over the top for me. The Jets have been great offensively of late, and the Wings are still 5th with 3.55 goals per game.

Take the OVER 6.5 (-110).
