Nevada vs. Georgia Tech odds, picks and predictions

The Nevada Wolf Pack (11-1) and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-3) meet in the Sunday title game of the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu. The opening tip at the Stan Sheriff Center is slated for 9 p.m. ET (ESPN). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the Nevada vs. Georgia Tech odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Diamond Head Classic is a 3-day invitational. Nevada has advanced to the championship finale on wins over Temple (80-56 on Thursday) and TCU (88-75 on Friday). A Wolf Pack team that has not lost since Dec. 9 going 4-0 straight up and against the spread (ATS), is leading the Mountain West Conference in scoring defense (64.8 points per game).

Georgia Tech advanced with a Thursday win over UMass (73-70) and a Friday win over Hawaii (73-68). The Yellow Jackets have won 4 consecutive games, the last 3 of which have been by 5 points or less. They have a 3-game ATS streak.

Nevada vs. Georgia Tech picks and predictions

Prediction

Georgia Tech 72, Nevada 70

Moneyline

The Wolf Pack is just 7-6 straight up over its last 13 neutral-site games.

Nevada is solid at both ends, with top-60 KenKom efficiency ratings on both offense and defense. But the Yellow Jackets have played the tougher schedule (rated 74th KenPom compared to 209th for UN).

The Yellow Jackets get after it on the offensive glass. They have registered offensive-board totals in the teens in 4 of their last 5 games, and if they can register a couple extra put-backs and play defense the way they can, they are a live wire to win some plus money here.

Georgia Tech put together a strong defensive effort against current-No. 19 Duke on Dec. 2 (when GTU was a +12.5), and the Jackets won that game 72-68.

Consider going in with half-unit plays, placing them here -- on GEORGIA TECH (+225) -- and an ATS play below.

Against the spread

Nevada does not shoot a lot of 3s, but for every team the distance bonus is a key. And Georgia Tech has been outstanding in defending the perimeter. On Friday, the Yellow Jackets held Hawaii to a 6-of-26 (23.1%) mark from beyond the arc. For the season, they have held foes to an inefficient 28% mark. That ranks 19th in NCAA-I.

Look for GTU to make this game close if not win outright. BACK THE YELLOW JACKETS +6.5 (-110).
