2024 The Sentry prop bet picks and PGA Tour predictions

The PGA Tour will open the 2024 calendar year in sunny Maui, Hawaii, with the 2024 The Sentry. It's the 1st event of the year and features a 59-player field that consists of PGA Tour winners and top-50 finishers in the FedExCup standings from a season ago. Kapalua Resort will once again host this star-studded event.

Below, we search for the best value prop bets among the 2024 Sentry odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.

Scottie Scheffler is the headliner of the tournament, leading the field with the shortest odds (+550) and ranking first in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin rankings. Viktor Hovland (+800), Collin Morikawa (+1200) and Max Homa (+1200) come in behind Scheffler among the favorites to win in Kapalua. Hovland ranks 2nd in Golfweek's poll, while Morikawa is 15th and Homa is 9th.

The Plantation Course is a par 73 and 7,596 yards long with huge elevation changes throughout. It features wide fairways and an abundance of downhill tee shots, making the par 5s reachable in 2 and giving players wedges into many par 4s. The winning score in this event has been between 14-under and 34-under in the last 14 years.

The Sentry – Top-5 picks

Odds provided by BetMGM Sportsbook; access Paste BN Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated Tuesday at 9:16 p.m. ET.

Xander Schauffele (+260)

Schauffele withdrew from this event last year but in his previous 4 starts here he finished 12th, 5th, 2nd and 1st. He's been a top-5 machine here since 2019 and at +260, he offers good value to finish in the top 5 again this week at a venue that he knows better than most.

Scottie Scheffler (+100)

Scheffler is the best player in the field and reminded everyone just how good he is when he won the Hero World Challenge a few weeks ago. It's a limited-field event where he has a chance to shine against the top competitors in the world, making this exactly the type of event Scheffler should excel in. He finished 7th here last year.

Tony Finau (+500)

Finau has played here in each of the last 3 years, but he's only finished better than 19th once: a T-7 last year. This is a wide-open course that bombers love because there is very little penalty for inaccuracy off the tee. Finau could take advantage of that and post a top-5 finish in Maui.

The Sentry – Top-10 picks

Collin Morikawa (+100)

Morikawa finished 2nd here last year after blowing a 6-shot lead in the final round to Jon Rahm, marking his 4th straight top-10 finish at Kapalua Resort. His odds for a top-10 should probably be shorter than they are but we'll take the value at +100.

Sungjae Im (+220)

Im excels in tournaments where the scores go low, and no event features lower scores than The Sentry. He's finished 13th, 8th and 5th in the last 3 years here so he's seeking his 3rd top-10 finish in 4 starts.

Tom Kim (+188)

Kim made his debut here last year and nearly won the whole thing, finishing 5th. Kim has shown a number of times before that he can contend with the best players in the world so there's no reason to believe his all-around game can't lift him to another top-10 this week.

The Sentry – Top-20 picks

Eric Cole (+138)

Cole has never played in this tournament before, but it's not a particularly difficult course for debutants. It's wide open and players typically hit a lot of greens in regulation, so he should fit right in.

Sahith Theegala (+150)

Theegala finished 33rd in his debut last year, which was a disappointment for the talented young star. He should bounce back with a better showing this year after finishing the fall season strong with a win, a top-10 and another top-20.

Cam Davis (+150)

Davis is a long hitter who should be able to take advantage of the downhill tee shots and increased number of par-5s compared to par-3s. He finished 10th here in 2022 thanks to 2 rounds of 66 on the weekend.

The Sentry – Matchups

Suggested play is golfer in bold.

Eric Cole (-110) vs. Corey Conners (-110)

Going back to Cole here in his debut against Conners, who hasn't finished better than 18th in 2 starts in The Sentry.

Xander Schauffele (-110) vs.  Patrick Cantlay (-110)

Cantlay has alternated 4th-place results with 13th- and 16th-place finishes in the last 4 years. Schauffele has 3 top-5s and a win in his last 4 starts at Kapalua.

The Sentry – Top American

Scottie Scheffler (+333)

Scheffler doesn't provide a lot of value in a tournament where his odds are so short, but he has a good chance to be the top American in the field. Morikawa and Schauffele are two others worth looking at, too, but Scheffler is very enticing.

The Sentry – Top Australian

Cam Davis (+100)

Davis is going head-to-head with Jason Day as the only 2 Australians in the field and I'll take Davis as the underdog at even money. Day hasn't played here since 2019 so he doesn't have a big experience edge either.

The Sentry – First-round leader

Tom Kim (+2500)

Kim was tied for the 2nd-lowest opening score last year, firing a 65 in the 1st round. He can heat up and get on a roll when the putter is working and he doesn't have any real weaknesses.

Sungjae Im (+2800)

In the last 2 years here, Im was tied for 4th and 5th after the 1st round. He often ranks near the top of the PGA Tour in birdie average and finished 26th in that category last season.
