2024 Sony Open odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions
After a thrilling finish in Maui for The Sentry on Sunday, the PGA Tour will head to Oahu for the 2024 Sony Open at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. The 1st round begins Thursday morning, with the final round on Sunday. As the 1st full-field event of the season, there will be a 36-hole cut.
Below, we look at the 2023 Sony Open odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.
Ludvig Aberg is the co-favorite to win this week despite making his debut in the Sony Open, tied with Matt Fitzpatrick and Tyrell Hatton (+1600). Last year's champion, Si Woo Kim, is +4000 to defend his title in Honolulu. Chris Kirk, who won The Sentry on Sunday, is +3300 to win back-to-back tournaments this week.
Waialae Country Club has hosted the Sony Open dating back to 1965, so it's a spot PGA Tour players have been visiting for decades. Unlike Kapalua's Plantation Course last week, this is just a par 70 and 7,044, so it's drastically shorter than Kapalua. There are also far fewer elevation changes than at Kapalua, and with only 2 par-5s on the scorecard, the scoring opportunities are reduced.

Chris Kirk (+2800)
It's not typically wise to bet a guy to win in back-to-back weeks, but Kirk is worth a wager here. Not only was he in great form in Maui, but he has a strong track record at Waialae Country Club, finishing 3rd here last year, 27th the year prior and T-2 in 2021. He checks the boxes of recent form and course history.
Corey Conners (+2800)
Conners has finished 12th and 11th here in the last 2 years, showing he can pick up where he left off relatively quickly in the new year. He came in 33rd last week in Maui, which wasn't an overly encouraging performance, but simply teeing it up in the 1st event of the season can give him an edge when it comes to the time change and dialing in his game.
Sony Open picks – Contenders
Brendon Todd (+4500)
With Waialae being such a short course, Todd fits the mold. He's by no means a long hitter but he's accurate off the tee and has a good enough iron game to hit plenty of greens. He's made the cut in each of the last 3 years here, with a T-21 finish in 2023.
Andrew Putnam (+5000)
Putnam went T-27 and T-4 in the last 2 years at the Sony Open and he just teed it up in The Sentry last week, which will hopefully help him get his game on track early in the year when many players are knocking off the rust. He's not a very long hitter either, but he ranked 34th in driving accuracy last season.
Sony Open picks – Long shots
Nico Echavarria (+20000)
Echavarria is a super-long shot this week but there's some upside to his game. He finished T-12 here last year and he just tied for 25th at The Sentry last week.
Austin Eckroat (+9000)
Eckroat tied for 12th in his Sony Open debut last year. He's not someone who will overpower a course with his length, ranking 88th in driving distance last season, but he's accurate off the tee and shouldn't miss many of the tree-lined fairways. He didn't have the luxury of playing last week, though.
