FAU at Tulane odds, picks and predictions

The Florida Atlantic Owls (11-4, 1-1 AAC) and Tulane Green Wave (10-4, 1-1) meet Thursday at Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's lines around the FAU vs. Tulane odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Owls hit the road, which hasn't been very kind to them so far. FAU lost its 1st-ever AAC road game at Charlotte last Saturday, 70-68, falling as an 8.5-point favorite. It also lost previously to Florida Gulf Coast as a 17.5-point favorite. That's it. It has 2 true road games and 2 outright losses as a heavy favorite.

The Green Wave are coming off a 70-56 loss as 2-point underdogs at North Texas on Saturday. The Wave have failed to cover in 3 games this season as underdogs. The Under has cashed in the past 3 games for Tulane after a 7-0 Over run.

FAU is No. 25 in the Paste BN Sports Coaches Poll.

FAU at Tulane picks and predictions

Prediction

Tulane 77, FAU 75

Moneyline

TULANE (+280) is worth a roll of the dice for a chance to nearly triple up. FAU (-350) has really struggled on the road, losing outright against Charlotte and FGCU the past 2 times it has packed a bag.

The Owls have been a good scoring team and brought it in Q1 wins over ranked opponents Arizona and Texas A&M, as well as unranked opponents Butler and Virginia Tech. But it also seems to play down to the competition as is evidenced by 2 inexplicable Q4 losses to Bryant and FGCU. Tulane is a Q2 team, so perhaps the Owls show up with a little intensity. But sluggish starts in non-neutral floor games, and horrific free-throw shooting, are giant red flags for this Owls team.

Against the spread

TULANE +7.5 (-105) is a solid play catching nearly 4 buckets on its home floor, if you simply can't bring yourself to back it straight up (SU).

Something's gotta give here, as FAU -7.5 (-115) has posted an 0-2 SU/ATS mark in 2 true road games, while Tulane is 0-3 ATS this season as an underdog.

I like the Green Wave at home catching the points, and I think there is a good chance they win outright.

Over/Under

UNDER 161.5 (-115) is a slam-dunk play in New Orleans on Thursday night and easily the best play for this AAC offering.

FAU has hit the Under in each of the past 3 games, including 68 points on the nose in both of the 2 road losses. The Owls leave a lot of points on the floor at the charity stripe, too, posting a dismal 69.3% free-throw percentage. Under bettors love that fact.

Tulane has also cashed the Under in each of the past 3 games, and the defense has allowed 70 or fewer points in 4 consecutive outings.
