Maple Leafs at Islanders picks and predictions
Prediction
Islanders 5, Maple Leafs 3
Moneyline
The Leafs have had a grueling schedule in recent weeks. They played 3 out West from Jan. 2-6 and have not played 2 in a row at home since Dec. 16-19.
We're not too far removed from that 1-4-1 stretch for Toronto, and the Maple Leafs had another rocky span of games earlier this season (1-3-2 from Oct. 28-Nov. 8). G Martin Jones has the hot hand, but he's mostly been a solid back-up over his career and is likely on borrowed time with his current surge. And while schedules typically level out by this point in the season, the Leafs do stand out as a club that has played a relatively easy slate so far.
New York beat Toronto earlier this season (4-3 in OT on Dec. 11) and is 3-1 over its last 4 games against the Leafs. Toronto sports a top-6 power-play and one that is 5 for its last 10. But the Isles do a good job avoiding penalties, so that tamps down the Toronto special-teams advantage.
BACK THE ISLANDERS (+110).

Over/Under
The Over is 6-1-1 in the Islanders' last 8 games. They are a club that has been an Over lean based on expected-vs.-actual goal numbers for the season. The same lean applies to Toronto's recent performances.
Both teams are playing on 1-day rest; both have solid scoring numbers in those situations.
TAKE THE OVER 6.5 (-120).
