The Mavericks are coming off a cover as 5-point home underdogs in a 125-120 win vs. the New Orleans Pelicans Monday as the Over (235.5) hit. G Kyrie Irving scored 42 points and F Tim Hardaway Jr. added 41 in the absence of G Luka Doncic (ankle).

The Lakers snapped a 3-game against-the-spread (ATS) losing streak with a 112-105 win against the Oklahoma City Thunder Monday as the Under (242.5) cashed; L.A. was a 3-point home underdog. C Anthony Davis had 27 points and 15 rebounds, both game-highs.

The Mavericks are 2-0 ATS vs. the Lakers this season. The most recent meeting was a 127-125 Mavericks win as 3-point home underdogs Dec. 12; the Over (235.5) hit.

Lakers 120, Mavericks 109

Moneyline

The Lakers (-175), off an impressive win against OKC, should be able to stay focused since they're still 1 game under .500. However, I prefer laying the points over risking $175 to win $100.

PASS. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

Dallas should let down after upsetting the Pelicans without its franchise player. The Mavericks needed 40-plus points from both Irving and Hardaway to get the job done, and that type of production will not likely continue.

L.A. is coming off a dominant defensive performance, giving up just 105 points against OKC after allowing 127 or more in 3 straight games. Look for the Lakers to keep up the intensity on the defensive end against Dallas, especially since they're 0-3 straight up and ATS in the last 3 meetings.

BET LAKERS -3.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The total opened at 241 overnight, and while I don't usually look to fade big line moves, this number is just too inflated. The Mavericks' offense should see some regression after Irving and Hardaway both dropped over 40 last time out, and the Lakers should be able to pick up where they left off defensively against the Thunder.

Dallas was averaging just 108.7 points in the 3 games before their win against the Pelicans, and that seems like a more realistic number to put up against this hungry Lakers defense.
