Purdue at Iowa odds, picks and predictions

The No. 2 Purdue Boilermakers (16-2, 5-2 Conf) take on the Iowa Hawkeyes (11-6, 3-3 Big Ten) Saturday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tipoff is set for 2:00 p.m. ET (FS1). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook's lines around the Purdue vs Iowa odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

After Monday's 86-77 victory over Minnesota, Iowa coach Frank McCaffery became the winningest head coach in Hawkeye basketball history. His squad faces a tough challenge Saturday as they hope to earn their 4th straight victory.

Purdue, which is No. 2 in the Paste BN Sports Coaches Poll, enters on a 2-game win streak. In those victories over Penn State and Indiana, C Zach Edey, the leading scorer in the Big Ten (22.9 PPG) netted a combined 66 points. The 7-foot-4 senior, and last year's National Player of the Year, also leads the conference in rebounds (11.1) per game.

These two schools met Dec. 4 in West Lafayette, Ind., with Purdue winning and cashing as a 14.5-point favorite.

Iowa at Purdue picks and predictions

Prediction

Purdue 87, Iowa 81

Moneyline

Consider betting Purdue (-265) in a ML parlay.

If you are looking to reduce the juice and spread action out, you can parlay the Boilermakers with Kansas (-550 @ WVU) and Duke (-1100 at home vs Pitt). That comes out to around -129 on Fanduel.

Against the spread

PASS.

I believe that Iowa is going to barely cover here because they are playing great basketball at the moment and will have the advantage of a raucous home crowd. I would rather play the total, however, as I am having a difficult time betting against Edey and a Purdue team that is No.1 in the Big Ten in 3-pt. percentage (39.6%).

Over/Under

BET OVER 165.5 (-110)

These schools are atop the Big Ten in scoring: Iowa is No. 1 at 87.1 PPG with Purdue just below at 85.1. The Hawkeyes play at a very rapid pace as their 76.8 possessions per game is the most in the conference and 12th-most nationally.

When it comes to Purdue's guards, sophomore Braden Smith is an outstanding facilitator as only Minnesota's Elijah Hawkins (7.8) averages more assists per game than Smith (7.1). Lance Smith and Fletcher Loyer were a combined 7-11 from 3-point range in Purdue's most-recent win over Indiana - so I like them to stay hot and help contribute to this Over hitting.

On the Iowa side, F Ben Krikke tied his season high with 25 points in Monday's win over Minnesota. While the senior may have a tougher time scoring inside on Edey, he will have the option to kick it out to G Josh Dix. Coach McCaffery talked about the sophomore being "locked in" so with Pat McCaffery still dealing with an ankle injury, Dix should be in line for more opportunities to knock down buckets.
