Tampa Bay Lightning at Philadelphia Flyers odds, picks and predictions

The Tampa Bay Lightning (24-18-5) take on the Philadelphia Flyers (25-16-6) Tuesday at Wells Fargo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook's lines around the Lightning vs. Flyers odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Flyers coach John Tortorella has the 3rd-shortest odds to win the Jack Adams Award (+600 at FanDuel Sportsbook) as he has guided this young Philadelphia squad into playoff contention. Despite coming into the 2023-24 season tied with the Ottawa Senators for the 6th-youngest roster (26.9 average age), Philadelphia currently possesses a 77% chance to make the playoffs, according to Moneypuck.com. Entering Tuesday, D Travis Sanheim leads the NHL in shifts (1417), and C Travis Konecny has the most goals on the team (22).

The Bolts core is still intact and RW Nikita Kucherov will be the team's representative at All-Star Weekend. Kucherov has the 2nd-most points in the NHL (76) and is tied with Colorado Avalanche C Nathan MacKinnon for the league lead in power play assists (24). Tampa Bay's 5-game winning streak was snapped Sunday as it fell to the Detroit Red Wings 2-1.

Lightning at Flyers projected goalies

Andrei Vasilevskiy (13-10-0, 2.83 GAA, .901 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Samuel Ersson (12-6-3, 2.36 GAA, .909 SV%, 3 SO)

The Big Cat has found tremendous success against Philadelphia in his career as he sports a 12-3-0 record in 16 starts. The 29-year-old Vasilevskiy enters Tuesday with the No. 1 save percentage among active goalies in the NHL.

Carter Hart is healthy, but it will be Ersson getting the start Tuesday night as he hopes to bounce back from allowing 4 goals against lowly Ottawa this past Sunday. The prior night, Ersson supplanted Hart, who allowed 5 goals on 15 shot attempts against Colorado in a 7-4 loss.

Lightning at Flyers picks and predictions

Prediction

Lightning 3, Flyers 2

Moneyline

BET LIGHTNING (-110).

While Kucherov may be Tampa Bay's only All-Star, this team still features a championship core headlined by future Hall-of-Famer C Steven Stamkos. In 40 regular season games played in his career vs. Philadelphia, the Lightning captain has 27 goals, the 2nd-most vs. an opponent in his career. C Brayden Point is 2nd on the team in goals scored (21), and D Victor Hedman is 4th in the NHL among defensemen in points (45).

The Flyers are a nice comeback story, but they do not have the talent to compete with Tampa Bay, even at home. The Bolts PK has been outstanding since Christmas, so even if they go down a man, I do not expect the recent back-to-back Stanley Cup champions to falter.

Puck line/Against the spread

PASS.

I expect a close game, but -275 is just too much juice to lay for me personally.

Over/Under

BET UNDER -6.5 (-128).

Ersson has had a solid season as his 2.36 goals against is the 6th-lowest in the league. He's backed by the league's 2nd-best penalty kill (86.3%), and only the New York Islanders block more shots in the Eastern Conference.

Tampa Bay's power play is No.1 in the NHL (29.73%), but it is 0-for-its-last-6 in its last 2 games. When Philadelphia has the man-advantage, it has struggled this season. Only the Chicago Blackhawks and Pittsburgh Penguins have a worse PP% than the Flyers (13.33%).
