Michigan at Michigan State odds, picks and predictions

The Michigan Wolverines (7-13, 2-7 Big Ten) head to Breslin Center for a conference battle with the Michigan State Spartans (12-8, 4-5) Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET (Peacock). Let’s analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Michigan vs. Michigan State odds as we make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and best bets.

The Wolverines lost for the 9th game in their last 10 games Saturday, 88-78 to the Iowa Hawkeyes. They lost outright as 1.5-point favorites, and the Over (162) hit. Four Wolverine starters scored in double figures, led by senior F Terrance Williams II, who scored 16 points and added 3 boards. They also got 5 blocks from senior F Olivier Nkamhoua, who also gave them 13 points as well. Michigan allowed the Hawkeyes to shoot 50 percent from long range in the loss.

Michigan State had its 3-game winning streak snapped Friday in Madison by the Wisconsin Badgers, 81-66. It failed to cover as a 2.5-point underdog, and the Over (136) hit. Senior G A.J. Hoggard led the Spartans with 19 points and dished out 4 dimes. The Badgers hurt them on the glass, outrebounding Michigan State, 35-25.

Michigan won the most recent meeting Feb. 18, 2023, over Michigan State, 84-72. It covered as a 3-point favorite, and the Over (136) cashed.

Michigan at Michigan State picks and predictions

Prediction

Michigan State 72, Michigan 68

Moneyline

PASS.

You should obviously avoid betting Michigan State (-850) because those odds are high. Take your money and put it on the spread if you want to make a bet.

Against the spread

BET MICHIGAN STATE -11.5 (-120).

I'd want to take Michigan catching the points in a rivalry game like this one, but the Wolverines are playing pretty awful basketball right now. They have covered the spread in just 1 of their last 10 games.

While Michigan State has not been great this season, it plays good ball at the Breslin Center, where it has covered the spread in 5 of its last 6 games.

Over/Under

PASS.

As much as I wanted to take the Over, I just couldn't see it. Michigan State plays at slower pace and locks down on the defensive end of the court. The Spartans allow just 61 points per game at home this season. They are just 50 percent on the season going over the total, which is why I'm going to stay away. I don't have the confidence to recommend this bet.
