2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open odds, picks and PGA Tour predictions
It's been a year of long shots to start 2024, with Wyndham Clark being the latest player with odds of 100-1 or longer to win. He took home the victory at the rain-shortened Pebble Beach Pro-Am last weekend after shooting a course-record 60 on Saturday. Next on the schedule is the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open, one of the best events on tour.
Of course, the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale will host this tournament again, with the 1st round beginning on Thursday morning. Below, we look at the 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open odds and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions.
Scottie Scheffler, the 2-time defending champion, is unsurprisingly the odds-on favorite to win again this week, coming in at +550 to start the week. The resurgent Justin Thomas has the 2nd-best odds (+1200), followed by Max Homa and Sam Burns (+1800). Xander Schauffele and Viktor Hovland withdrew from the field on Monday.
The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale is a par 71 and plays at 7,261 yards, featuring multiple par 5s that are reachable in 2, as well as the drivable 17th hole, a short par 4 that gives players a great scoring opportunity before the finishing 18th.

Justin Thomas (+1200)
All aboard the JT train. He's finished T-3 and T-6 in his 2 starts so far this season, and that T-6 very well could've been a victory if the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am wasn't shortened by rain to 54 holes. He's riding high right now and is coming to a tournament where he's finished in the top 17 in 7 of his 9 trips, with nothing worse than T-13 in his last 5 starts here – including 4 top-10s.
Sungjae Im (+2800)
Im hit a rough patch in the last 2 weeks, missing the cut at Torrey Pines before finishing 66th last week at Pebble in the no-cut event. However, this is a good buy-low spot at a tournament where he's finished 7th, 34th, 17th and 6th in 4 career starts. With scoring opportunities abound, this is a great time to take Im.
Waste Management Phoenix Open picks – Contenders
Hideki Matsuyama (+5000)
Matsuyama started his career in this event with 4 straight top-5s from 2014-17, including wins in 2016 and 2017. He's never missed the cut here and in his last 5 starts in this event, he's come in the top 20 three times, including a T-8 in 2022. He appears to be fully healthy and should be in for a good week in Phoenix.
Rickie Fowler (+5500)
It hasn't been a great start to the year for Fowler, who's yet to finish better than T-47 in 3 starts, but Phoenix could be where he gets back on track. He won here in 2019 and finished T-10 last year, posting 5 top-11 finishes in his last 8 starts here.
Beau Hossler (+5000)
Don't look now, but Hossler could be on the verge of winning his 1st career PGA Tour event. He's finished 6th and 14th in his last 2 starts and currently ranks 8th in total strokes gained this season, including 6th in putting. After missing the cut in 2021 and 2022, he finished T-14 here last year. Could this be the week he breaks through and gets in the winner's circle?
Waste Management Phoenix Open picks – Long shots
Mark Hubbard (+8000)
Hubbard is trending in the right direction and building some real momentum this year, going from T-57 to T-47 to T-20 and T-4 in his 4 starts this season. He's made the cut in 4 of 5 trips to the WM Phoenix Open, with his best finish coming in 2020 (T-9).
Erik van Rooyen (+10000)
Total driving is a key stat this week and van Rooyen ranks 14th this season in strokes gained: off the tee. He has 3 top-25 finishes already this year and though he's only played this tournament twice, he's trending upward after a strong start to the 2024 season.
