A-10 Tournament: Duquesne vs. Dayton odds, picks and predictions

The Duquesne Dukes (21-11, 10-8 A-10) battle the No. 24 Dayton Flyers (24-8, 14-4) Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Tip from Barclays Center is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET (USA Network). Below, we analyze FanDuel Sportsbook’s lines around the Duquesne vs. Dayton odds, and make our expert college basketball picks, predictions and bets.

The 6th-seeded Dukes beat the No. 14 St. Louis Billikens 83-73 on Wednesday in the 1st round of the conference tournament. They covered the spread as a 7.5-point favorite and the Over (146) cashed. Senior G Jimmy Clark III scored 20 points, had 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 stealsy. Duquesne finished the regular season on a 4-game win streak before beating St. Louis. The Dukes have not advanced to the A-10 Tournament finals since 2009.

Despite being ranked in the Top 25, Dayton comes in to the A-10 Tournament as the 3-seed. They finished the regular season with a 91-86 OT win at home over the VCU Rams, but they failed to cover the 8.5-point spread as the Over (135) cashed. Second-team All-American F DaRon Holmes II finished the season averaging 20.2 points and 8.3 rebounds and shot over 55% from the field. The Flyers have not won the A-10 Tournament since 2003.

Dayton swept the season series against Duquesne. The last win was 75-59 on Feb. 13, covering the spread as a 8-point favorite as the 134 total pushed.

Duquesne vs. Dayton picks and predictions

Prediction

Dayton 70, Duquesne 65

Moneyline

PASS.

You should avoid betting Dayton (-275) as the juice is a bit more than I like. Bet the spread and/or total instead.

Against the spread

BET DUQUESNE +6.5 (-110).

Despite the fact the Flyers have won and covered in 5 straight matchups against the Dukes, a conference tournament is a different animal. The environment and experience is completely different from a regular-season matchup.

Duquesne has won 7 of its last 8 and have covered in 6 of those. They are rolling, and I see them keeping this game close. Dayton has failed to cover in 4 of their last 6 games.

Over/Under

PASS.

Vegas is trying to tease you into taking this Over, but I'm not going to take the bait. Dayton has been Over in 6 straight but their defense is one that can upset that balance at anytime. On top of that, Duquesne has played to the Under in 6 of their last 8. I don't see an edge in this game, which is why I'll just let this one go and focus on the spread.
