The NC State Wolfpack (20-14) square off against the Virginia Cavaliers (23-9) in the ACC Tournament semifinals from Capital One Arena Friday. Tip is set for 9:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). The Wolfpack upset Duke, 74-69, Thursday as 11-point underdogs to advance to the semis. Five players were in double figures, including C Mohamed Diarra, who had 14 points, 16 boards and 4 blocks. The Wolfpack were just 12-11 in conference play this season, and they split the games with UVA. NC State won 76-60 on its home floor and pushed the Cavs to overtime before succumbing 59-53 in their house.

The Cavs narrowly covered as 5.5-point favorites with a 66-60 win over Boston College Thursday. G Reece Beekman had an awful shooting night at 4-for-17 from the floor and finished with 11 points and 11 assists. UVA's calling card is defense, though, as it was tied for 14th in the nation with a 97.5 defensive rating.

I like Virginia here as this is a pseudo home game for it with Charlottesville, Va., just 2 hours away from D.C. Raleigh is about a 5-hour trek for the NC State faithful. I was impressed with the way UVA found a way to win despite its best player having a bad shooting night. Beekman found a way to make plays in spite of the strife.

Against the spread

UVA is 6-4 against NC State in the last 10, and 5 of those 6 were by 3+ points. Again, the proximity to campus is really what's at play here, and I look for a bounce-back performance from Beekman.

The last meeting didn't reach this number despite going to overtime. I think defense will be a large factor in this one, and that's why I'm going UNDER 121.5 (-115).
