Watch middle school basketball player make full-court buzzer beater to win the game!

To complete a come-from-behind victory in sports, you need to meet a few requirements. First, you or your team needs determination. Second, you need just a little bit of luck. Finally, it never hurts to have an amazing moment to cap it all off. The Milton Pope eighth grade basketball team met all of those requirements on a Tuesday night in Marseilles, Illinois, as Cooper Thorson hit a miraculous full-court shot to cap off the comeback win.

With less than three seconds left in the basketball game, Milton Pope Elementary was down by only one point to their rival Marseilles Elementary School, who had the ball and was attempting a free throw to extend their lead. The determined Milton Pope eighth grade team had already erased a 10-point deficit at halftime and the team was looking for a miracle to finish off the comeback.
Luckily for Milton Pope, the free throw shot bounced off the rim and into the hands of number 44, Cooper Thorson. Thorson dribbled toward the sidelines and launched the ball underhand toward the hoop at the other end of the court as the buzzer went off.
“When I shot it, I had not thought of it going in,” said 13-year-old Cooper Thorson
Perhaps it was luck or determination… or Cooper Thorson is just that good of a shot, but to the shock and awe of the crowd, the ball went into the basket and Milton Pope Elementary won the game.
“Oh my goodness, when I saw it go through the rim I was like ‘No way that just went in, we won,'” said Thorson. “I just started just running around the whole court with the whole team following me, going crazy."
As with all moments like this in sports, the game winning shot was met with loud cheers, jumping and fist pumps from the home crowd in the Milton Pope Gym as the team surrounded Thorson and celebrated the miraculous victory.
