8-year-old Peyton Thorby was buzzing when she arrived for the Showcase of Champions Cheerleading Competition in Tampa, Florida. But her bubble burst almost immediately when she learned she was the only member of the K-Tech Krakens team in her division who had shown up.

Peyton, a first-year cheerleader, was bitterly disappointed. This was a team competition, so it seemed certain she'd miss out on performing. But that’s when her coaches came up with a plan which gave Peyton a decision to make. The team could forfeit, which would be unfortunate, but just one of those things, or Peyton could compete as a team of one. Obviously, she hadn’t prepared a solo routine, but after a brief hesitation, she decided to go for it. And the outcome was spectacular!
