U.S. Open Day 7: Key matches, TV schedule
NEW YORK — Tim Smyczek will try to avoid another dubious record for American men, and Serena Williams will try to avoid another early exit in a major.
And, perhaps, get a little big of payback in the process.
Day 7 of the U.S. Open features the clash people have been looking for since the draw came out: Williams, the defending champion, vs. fellow American Sloane Stephens, the player who knocked her out of the Australian Open in the fourth round and then made some critical comments in a magazine.
Serena vs. Sloane is third up in the day session at Arthur Ashe Stadium
Smyczeck will face Marcel Granollers of Spain (third on Grandstand). If he goes down, it will be the first time no American man has reached the fourth round in the Open era.
No pressure Tim.
