Eugenie Bouchard out of U.S. Open singles match with concussion


NEW YORK — Genie Bouchard withdrew from the U.S. Open on Sunday before her fourth round match against Roberta Vinci after sustaining a concussion Friday when she slipped and fell in the locker room.

Bouchard, the 25th seed, was set to play last on Louis Armstrong Stadium.

The Canadian withdrew from both doubles and mixed doubles Saturday and tournament officials issued a statement saying that the "severity of the injury was and continues to be assessed by the on-site medical personnel at the U.S. Open."

Bouchard cancelled previously scheduled practice sessions  Sunday at 3:15 and 4 p.m., arriving on site at the USTA National Tennis Center just after 3:30 in a hooded sweatshirt and dark sunglasses, hands in her pockets.
