Andy Murray watches brother win Australian Open doubles title

MELBOURNE, Australia — Andy Murray couldn’t stay away. With his brother Jamie in the doubles final at the Australian Open, the world No. 2 — who said he wouldn’t be able to watch because he was too nervous to — showed up at the end anyway.

Jamie Murray and partner Bruno Soares captured the men’s doubles title early Sunday morning here, beating Daniel Nestor and Radek Stepanek 2-6, 6-4, 7-5.

As Jamie and Soares made their champions’ speeches, Andy snuck into the players’ box, camera queued up on his phone.

“Andy, you should be in bed,” Jamie said into the microphone. “I don’t know what you’re doing here taking photos. We’ll be there to support you tomorrow.”

Sunday night in Melbourne, Andy meets world No. 1 Novak Djokovic in the men’s final, due for a 7:30 p.m. local start. The men’s doubles finished just after 1 a.m. local time.

Andy is going for his first Australian Open title, having lost in four previous finals, including three to Djokovic.

Jamie Murray won his first Grand Slam title in men's doubles, having made the finals at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open. He teared up during his post-match remarks.

Andy's arrival was in contrast to what he told reporters Friday.

"I try not to watch. I find it pretty stressful, so I won't watch the match," he said. "[I'm] so very proud of him."
