Ronda Rousey target of some 'negative comments' even in hometown
Ronda Rousey has taken a beating — in and out of the octagon — that has extended from Melbourne, Australia, site of her UFC 193 fight, to Venice, Calif., where she grew up.
Jonas Never, an artist in Venice Beach who painted a mural in Rousey’s honor, said he heard some snide remarks about Rousey on Saturday night after she was shockingly knocked out in the second round by Holly Holm.
"Every once in a while there would be a guy who would say something like, 'She thought she could fight (Floyd) Mayweather, but she couldn’t even box Holm,' " Never told Paste BN Sports, referring to Rousey’s verbal jousting with Mayweather, the retired champion boxer. "Those are the only negative comments I heard."
Others who have taken public shots at Rousey include her former manager Darin Harvey, MMA rivals Miesha Tate and Cris "Cyborg" Justino, and even Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.
And from Mayweather? Nothing yet.
As of Sunday evening, Mayweather hadn’t posted anything on Twitter or Instagram since Holm defeated Rousey.
