IOC confirms British Olympics official sent home after altercation with security guard

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea -- A British member of the International Olympics Committee was sent home after an altercation with a security guard here, the IOC confirmed Friday.
Adam Pengilly, 40, who competed in skeleton at the 2006 and 2010 Winter Games, admitted he made "errors" and has left the Games, said Mark Adams, an IOC spokesman.
Pengilly issued an apology to the security guard. The IOC issued its own apology, adding that local security authorities were doing an excellent job at the Olympics.
Adams said he didn't have details about the incident, but in an interview in Inside The Games, Pengilly said didn't touch the guard.
"I tried to walk past a security guard when he told me to go the other way," he told Inside the Games, which covers Olympics news. "He blocked my path, came close to me, and asked to see my accreditation. I showed it and, when he came even closer to me, I asked to see his manager. He wouldn't take me to his manager and asked to take a photograph of my accreditation.
"This went on for 30 seconds or so, and then I ran past him," he told the website.
Pengilly's mandate as an IOC member expires Feb. 25 and will not be renewed, the IOC said.
