Winds wreak havoc again at Winter Olympics: Women's Alpine combined moved up to Thursday

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — The Pyeongchang winds are wreaking havoc with the Alpine skiing schedule once again.
Skiing officials announced Monday night that they are moving the women’s Alpine combined to Thursday. The race was originally scheduled for Friday, when the forecast calls for strong winds and snow.
This is the fifth race at the Pyeongchang Olympics to be rescheduled because of wind. The women’s giant slalom was postponed by three days last week and the slalom two. The men’s downhill was delayed by four days, which then pushed the Super-G back a day.
The new schedule means Mikaela Shiffrin will skip the downhill, which is Wednesday to focus on the combined, where she has a better chance at a medal.
“As much as I wanted to compete in the Olympic downhill, with the schedule change it’s important for me to focus my energy on preparing for the combined,” Shiffrin said. “I’m looking forward to cheering on our girls racing in the downhill and to compete myself in Thursday’s combined."
Lindsey Vonn said Monday that she would still race the combined if it was moved.
“It’ll be tough to have the energy for that,” Vonn said. “I’ll do the best that I can.”
