The 2025 WNBA season is just days from getting underway, and it feels like it could be the biggest campaign in league history.

Women's basketball has been on an incredible trajectory in recent years, with the WNBA at the pinnacle of the sport. With the regular season getting under way on Friday, May 16, fans have a lot to take in from this winter: superstars changed teams, Unrivaled redefined what the offseason means, and Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever put up huge viewership numbers in preseason play.

With play tipping off in a couple of days, the New York Liberty will be looking to repeat after finally winning it all last season, but teams like the Las Vegas Aces and Minnesota Lynx have every right to think they can push ahead of the champs. The Indiana Fever are a popular pick to take the next step after acquiring some proven vets to work with Caitlin Clark.

Here are power rankings for every WNBA team entering the season, based on their current odds to win the 2025 championship.

WNBA 2025 championship odds: Power ranking all 13 teams

Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Tuesday, May 13.

Favorites

  • New York Liberty (+225)
  • Las Vegas Aces (+275)
  • Indiana Fever (+300)
  • Minnesota Lynx (+400)

Oddsmakers have clearly marked out their top four, with this quartet getting far shorter odds than the remainder of the league heading into 2025. The Liberty, fresh off of the franchise's first title and boasting a roster full of star players, seem set to begin the campaign as the betting favorites. However, there's little daylight between the league's other "super team," an Aces squad built around center A'ja Wilson.

Minnesota, who pushed the Liberty all the way in last year's championship series, is expected to be a powerhouse as well, especially with Napheesa Collier leading the way. The surprise package up at the top is Indiana, who finished the 2024 season on a tear before being knocked off in the first round of the playoffs.

Potential Cinderella candidates

  • Phoenix Mercury (+1400)
  • Seattle Storm (+3500)
  • Atlanta Dream (+5000)
  • Los Angeles Sparks (+5000)
  • Chicago Sky (+6600)
  • Dallas Wings (+6600)

Like any seriously competitive league, the middle tier represents nearly half of the WNBA. Every team in this group has a chance to make some noise this season, but could just as easily experience a tough 2025.

Phoenix exists in a niche all its own, somewhere between the true favorites and the rest of this set of six teams, but questions remain after Brittney Griner joined Atlanta in free agency. Angel Reese and Chicago will draw a ton of attention, as will 2025 No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers as she starts her pro career with the Wings.

Longshots

The Sun appear to be in a full rebuild after several huge names left this winter, while Golden State's debut as an expansion team hasn't convinced oddsmakers that they'll be an instant success.

Spare a thought for the Mystics fans out there: Washington played themselves out of serious contention in the Bueckers sweepstakes late last season, and have lost first-round pick Georgia Amoore to a torn ACL before the campaign has even started.
