Tech stocks: Apple plans don't sway stock price

Apple shares are holding steady following reports that an iPhone announcement is around the corner. Let's take a look at the tech stocks to watch Monday.

Apple unveiling iPhone next month. Shares of the Cupertino, Calif., company are up slightly, 0.6%, in pre-market trading with news of a new iPhone coming soon.

At an event on September 10, Apple is expected to reveal its next iPhone as competition from rivals Samsung, Google, Microsoft and others continues to intensify.

Consumers haven't been the only ones anticipating a new Apple device. Investors have been wary of Apple stock without a fresh iPhone, iPad or other device to showcase. Shares have plunged from a 52-week high of $702 last September to $456.87.

BlackBerry surges. Shares of the smartphone maker are up 7% in early trading after revealing it would launch a special committee to explore "strategic alternatives," which might include a sale of the company.

The company's line of BlackBerry 10 devices have failed to catch on with consumers as they continue to drift toward mobile ecosystems cultivated by Apple, Google and Microsoft.
