Report: Samsung replaces head of mobile design

Electronics giant Samsung is reportedly shaking up its mobile design up amid concerns over the popularity of the company's latest smartphone.

Reuters reports former mobile design chief Chang Dong-hoon offered to step down to focus more on the company's overall design strategy. Lee Min-hyouk, vice president of mobile design, will take over, according to Reuters.

Lee played a critical role in designing Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, which are now the chief competitor to Apple and its popular iPhone. During the first quarter, Samsung held a 30% share of global smartphone shipments among hardware makers, says analysis from IDC. Apple is second with a 15.5% share.

However, Reuters notes consumer reactions to the Galaxy S5 have been "lukewarm." Last month, a Samsung exec revealed sales of the Galaxy S5 were outpacing its predecessor. Samsung has yet to reveal official S5 sales figures.
