Tech Five: Apple updates on iOS 8, bending phones

Apple has responded to two of its most recent issues linked to the iPhone: bending smartphones and glitchy software updates. Let's look at the technology stocks to watch Friday:

Apple. The tech giant says reported cases of bent iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones are "extremely rare," following a surge in complaints on social networks. Apple says nine customers contacted the company with concerns over a bent smartphone. Meanwhile, Apple issued a fresh update to iOS 8 that addresses several bugs and cleans up an earlier update that nixed cellular service for some iPhone owners.

BlackBerry. Shares of the Canadian smartphone maker sunk more than 2% in pre-market trading despite narrowing its second quarter loss. The company reported a loss of 2 cents a share, beating analyst estimates of 16 cents. BlackBerry reported $916 million in revenue for the quarter.

Intel. The chip maker is claiming a stake in mobile chip makers Spreadtrum Communications and RDA Microelectronics, reports Reuters. No details were offered on how much Intel's investment is worth.

Facebook. The social network is working with startup Stripe to include a "buy" button that will appear in ads that run on users' News Feeds, reports Re/code. The "buy" option is currently in the testing phase. It's not clear when the button would roll out to Facebook users.

Alibaba. Shares of the Chinese e-commerce site are up slightly in early trading, capping a turbulent first week of trading on the New York Stock Exchange. Shares have been up and down all week, closing Thursday at $88.92, well above its $68 IPO price.
