Tech Five: DirecTV starts 4K broadcasts

A popular television provider is making the jump to 4K programming. Let's look at the technology stocks to watch Friday:

DirecTV. The satellite TV provider announced it will offer a variety of content in 4K resolution. Nearly 20 movies will be available, including Forrest Gump and the 2009 Star Trek movie, as part of an exclusive deal with TV maker Samsung. Customers need a Genie HD DVR and a Samsung TV that is 4K ready to take advantage of the higher-quality resolution.

Amazon. The online retailer ended its long feud with publishing company Hachette, reaching a new deal on print and e-books. The new deal kicks in next year.

Facebook. The social network updated its privacy policy to make it simpler for users to make changes to how their information is shared on the service. It includes a Privacy Checkup, an interactive tool that helps users make quick changes.

SAP. The software company will pay Oracle $359 million to end a copyright lawsuit, reports Bloomberg. Oracle sued SAP in 2007, and had won a $1.3 billion award before it was reduced by a federal judge for being too excessive.

BlackBerry. The smartphone maker unveiled BBM Meetings, a mobile-first voice and video-conferencing service aimed at businesses. It's available starting at $12.50 per month.
