Uber and Spotify to pair up for in-car DJ
LOS ANGELES — Does the all-news radio blaring in a cab drive you nuts?
Have you ever wished you could pick the music being played instead?
Alternative taxi service Uber hopes to change that by pairing with streaming music service Spotify.
Uber and a "special partner guest" are staging a press conference Monday at 10 a.m. ET to announce a "first-of-its-kind partnership." Spotify subscribers will be able to connect their phones and listen to their playlists and favorite songs in the car.
The alliance was first reported by Tech Crunch. Paste BN confirmed it.
Spotify has been in the spotlight recently for a war of words between the music service, which boasts of 12.5 million paying subscribers, and pop star Taylor Swift.
Swift yanked her new album 1989 off Spotify, saying the service didn't pay enough royalties to make it worth her effort. Spotify countered that a major pop star like Swift would receive at least $2 million in royalties for an album like 1989.
Meanwhile, YouTube, the world's top video site, is going after Spotify's audience with the Tuesday beta launch of YouTube Music Key, an ad-free subscription service.
