Google unveils smarter version of Hangouts

Google unveiled an update to its Hangouts app for Android that they say will offer a smarter, more entertaining experience.

The changes were detailed by Google's Rhett Robinson, and include new stickers to use in conversations, video filters using can swipe to add during video calls and smart suggestions that pop up during conversations.

Users can also confirm their phone number to make it easier for friends and family to contact them. The app will also feature "last seen" timestamps so users can know when their friends are online.

The changes will be available in the Android version of Hangouts starting today.
