Tech Five: New details on Apple's MacBook Air surface


Not even the Consumer Electronics Show can slow the Apple rumor mill. Let's take a look at the technology stocks to watch Wednesday:

Apple. The tech giant is prepping new versions of its MacBook Air laptop that drops key features like full USB ports to make the device even thinner. According to 9to5Mac, the laptop is expected to ship around the middle of this year.

Facebook. The social network's mobile messaging service WhatsApp topped 700 million monthly active users. Co-founder Jan Koum says users send 30 billion messages every day.

Intel. The chip maker says it will pledge $300 million to increase the diversity within its workforce by 2020. Intel CEO Brian Krzanich says compensation of Intel leaders will be tied to their progress in diversifying the company.

Sony. The company's controversial film The Interview raked in $31 million in consumer sales, and has been rented or purchased more than 4.3 million times.

Micron Technology. Shares of the hardware maker dropped 2.6% in pre-market trading after forecasting its current quarter revenue would fall below estimates, reports CNBC. The company reported a profit of 97 cents per share, topping Wall Street forecasts.
