Tech Five: Microsoft acquires Sunrise app
Microsoft scooped up a popular mobile calendar app. Let's take a look at the technology stocks to watch Thursday:
Microsoft. The company confirmed it acquired Sunrise, a calendar app for Android and iOS. Microsoft says Sunrise will remain available as an app, but will use some of the app's "innovations" to Microsoft services, says Microsoft's Rajesh Jha.
Twitter. The social network announced it will acquire the service Niche for $30 million. Niche helps connect content makers on social media platforms like Twitter with brands.
Yahoo. CEO Marissa Mayer outlined her plans to reorganize the company in an effort to boost ad sales. Mayer also sang the praises of Tumblr, the blogging network Yahoo acquired for $1 billion.
Cisco. Shares of the networking giant surged 7% in pre-market trading after reporting a 68% jump in net income along with increases in revenue during the second quarter. According to The Wall Street Journal, Cisco forecasts revenue growth of 3%-5% for the current quarter.
Zynga. The social games company reports fourth quarter results after the markets close Thursday. Analysts estimate Zynga will break even on earnings with revenue of $201 million.
