Tech Five: Apple told to pay in patent case
A federal jury is forcing Apple to pay for infringing on patents tied to iTunes. Here's a look at the technology stocks to watch Wednesday:
Apple. The tech giant was told by a federal jury it must fork over $532.9 million for patent infringement, reports Bloomberg. Texas-based company Smartflash LLC claims Apple used its patents on iTunes without permission. Apple says they will appeal the ruling.
Google. The company acquired marketing startup Toro, which specializes in promoting apps on Facebook. Toro confirmed the deal in a statement on their blog Tuesday.
Salesforce. The cloud computing company reports fourth quarter earnings after the markets close Wednesday. Analysts polled by FactSet project Salesforce will report sales of $1.44 billion with earnings of 14 cents per share.
BlackBerry. The smartphone maker will launch its BlackBerry Classic device on Verizon's network. It will be available online starting February 26, followed by retail on March 5. It will sell for $99 after $50 mail-in rebate.
Facebook. The social network launched a new mobile app aimed at advertisers. The app would allow advertisers to manager their campaigns. Facebook also revealed its number of "active" advertisers rose to 2 million.
