Tech Five: Ericsson sues Apple over patents


Tech giant Apple is embroiled in another battle over smartphone patents. Let's take a look at the technology stocks to watch Friday:

Apple. Mobile phone maker Ericsson is suing Apple over patent infrigement, claiming the tech giant violated as many as 41 patents, reports Bloomberg. Ericsson is also asking the U.S. International Trade Commission to block the sale of Apple devices in the U.S.

Twitter. The social network is updating its security tools to make it easier for users to combat abuse. Twitter will expand options to allow users to report cases of abusers posting personal information about someone else.

Facebook. The social network is offering a new option when selecting gender: fill in the blank. It's one of 59 options that will be available to Facebook users in the U.S.

Netflix. The streaming media service is among several companies praising the FCC's vote in support of net neutrality. In a statement, Netflix lauded the decision. "The net neutrality debate is about who picks winners and losers online: Internet service providers or consumers. Today, the FCC settled it: Consumers win."

Samsung. It's rare to see big products announcements on a weekend, but at the Mobile World Congress, the electronics giant is expected to reveal the Galaxy S6 smartphone during an event in Barcelona. Samsung may also offer details on its efforts to enter the mobile payments business.
