Tech Five: Apple teaming up with HBO?
Might HBO partner with Apple on the launch of its standalone subscription service? Let's look at the tech stocks to watch Thursday:
Apple. The tech giant's Apple TV set-top box will host the cable-free subscription to HBO, reports the International Business Times. Other services will gain access, but it's not clear which ones will play host. The service is reportedly called HBO Now, and will cost $15 a month.
Facebook. The social network's photo sharing app Instagram has expanded its offerings to businesses seeking to advertise on the platform. Instagram will add carousel ads with multiple photos and the ability to include a link for users wanting more information.
Twitter. According to TechCrunch, the social network is in talks to acquire the live streaming app Periscope. Video streaming on Twitter has received buzz lately following the arrival of a similar app called Meerkat.
Microsoft. The company says it will expand access to developer tools for Xbox Live to allow any one to create apps for the service, which is used on video game consoles like Xbox One.
Etsy. The online retailer filed its initial public offering, and seeks to raise at least $100 million. It would trade under the symbol ETSY.
