Apple Watch: How it compares with other smartwatches


Apple hopes to build momentum in the wearable technology domain, introducing a new smartwatch to compete with Google's Android Wear software. The company unveiled specifics of its Apple Watch at a press event Monday in San Francisco.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, 4.6 million smartwatches were shipped worldwide in 2014 and Apple could ship 15.4 million units in 2015. Among the companies competing for market share:

Pebble Time features:

• Pebble operating system

• Full-color e-ink screen (similar to recent generations of the Kindle e-reader)

• Bluetooth

• Up to 7 days of battery life

• Slimmer design (20% thinner than original Pebble)

• Water resistant

• 6,500-plus Pebble apps and watch faces

• "Timeline" software interface connects to calendars, alarms and apps

• Step tracking with Misfit and Jawbone

• Microphone for sending voice replies and recording voice notes

Samsung Galaxy Gear S features:

• Make/receive calls, check messages while away from phone

• Exercise apps available, including S Health, Nike+Running and MapMyRun

• Up to 4 days of battery life; typical usage 1-2 days

Motorola Moto 360 features:
