Tech Five: Facebook's f8 event kicks off

Social networking giant Facebook prepares to kick off its big f8 Developers Conference Wednesday. Let's look at the technology stocks to watch:

Facebook. Prepare to hear a lot about the company's Messenger service as a platform, according to TechCrunch. The report also says Facebook will take a dip into the "Internet of Things" space, unveiling a mobile app building suite from Parse -- acquired in 2013 -- to integrate its services into the home. Facebook's keynote starts at 1 p.m. ET.

Google. Pretty soon, Gmail users may get to pay bills directly from their inbox. According to Re/code, the service called Pony Express would make it easier for users to receive bills by Gmail, and then make payments directly from e-mail.

Tesla. Shares of the electric car maker sunk 2.5% in morning trading after CLSA downgraded its stock to "underperform," reports CNBC. CLSA cites smaller margins from Model X vehicles impacting the company's short-term earnings.

Apple. The tech giant is acquiring database technology startup FoundationDB, reports TechCrunch. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Amazon. The online retailing giant is pushing the Federal Aviation Administration to approve the use of drones more quickly. Amazon says the pace of permit approvals is so slow, drones are becoming obsolete by the time they earn clearance from FAA.
