Facebook releases Messenger for the web
Facebook has launched a dedicated Messenger app for the web.
English-speaking users can get started with the service by visiting Messenger.com. More languages are expected to be added in the coming weeks.
Like the mobile version, it's a standalone messaging platform without the News Feed and other potential distractions. Facebook Chat will still be available on Facebook.com, according to Re/code.
Changes to Messenger were detailed in March at F8, Facebook's conference for software developers. At the event, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the social network would be opening up Messenger to third-party apps.
The company first attempted Messenger desktop apps for Windows and Firefox back in 2012. However, both of the apps were eventually discontinued.
