Tech Five: Nokia jumps off Alcatel-Lucent talk
Shares of Nokia are surging off a potential blockbuster merger. Let's take a look at the technology stocks to watch Tuesday:
Nokia. Shares jumped more than 5% in pre-market trading after the tech company confirmed it is in advanced talks with telecommunications company Alcatel-Lucent on a possible merger. Meanwhile, shares of Alcatel-Lucent have climbed more than 6%.
Alibaba. The e-commerce giant defended its efforts at thwarting the sale of counterfeit goods on its websites including Taobao. Reuters reports U.S. trade group the American Apparel and Footwear Association is urging the U.S. government to push Alibaba to take more action.
Intel. The chip maker reports first quarter earnings after the markets close Tuesday. Analysts polled by FactSet predict Intel will report an earnings per share of 41 cents off $12.83 billion in revenue.
Apple. The tech giant announced its Worldwide Developers Conference will kick off June 8 in San Francisco. The company uses the event's keynote to share details on the next versions of OS X and iOS for desktop and mobile platforms respectively.
IBM. The tech giant announced a version of its Watson computing platform that will focus on health. IBM is partnering with Apple, Johnson & Johnson and Medtronic to deliver health-based data.
